Fog Lights
Local Fog Light Installation
Whenever driving through low visibility, fog lights are an excellent navigation aid. Separate from your headlights, fog lights are used when driving through thick fog , rain, or snow.
If your car comes equipped with fog lights, they’ll typically be placed below your headlights on the lower corners of your vehicle. This positioning is deliberate as fog lights are shaped and directed to only illuminate a wide and quiet area around your car to prevent visibility interference for you and other drivers.
The fog lights aren’t a standard feature on every car; it is possible to drive through poor conditions without them. However, it is easier to do so with a proper fog light installation. As such, if your current fog lights are broken, or you want to add aftermarket fog lights to your car, don’t hesitate to call ProCarSound&Security.
Best Fog Lights
As a type of car light, fog lights share many similarities with your headlights. When searching for a new set, you’ll have to decide on the kind of fog light bulb replacement that best fits your needs. While you can stick with your factory bulbs, you can often upgrade to aftermarket fog lights that perform better.
Halogen Fog Lights
Halogen fog lights are the most basic of the available lights. Mimicking a household bulb, halogen lights feature a filament that generates light through heat. The construction is simple, and the technology is reliable, leading to an affordable product but far from the longest-lasting or best-performing.
Compared to other technologies, these bulbs do not reach as far and typically give off a warmer yellowish light. In a lot of cars, these will be the types of bulbs installed from the factory.
The least common of the three technologies, high-intensity discharge (HID) fog lights, forgo heating a light emitting filament. Instead, this fog light installation passes an electric current through a gaseous chamber which causes light to be cast. As the name implies, these lights are more than sufficient in their brightness, and with no filament to burn out, they last longer than halogen lights.
HID Fog Lights
LED Fog Lights
LED fog lights are the new benchmark. Light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs offer competitive brightness while generating less heat and using less energy than HID or halogen lights. This allows LED fog lights to have a lifespan that easily outlasts other bulb technologies.
Fog Light Assembly Replacement
Fog lights are much closer to the road than your headlight assemblies. With constant road debris, your fog lights are at a greater risk of damage than your headlights.
Cracks to your lights will require a fog light assembly replacement. Some aftermarket options, particularly fog lights for trucks, will have metal bars covering the fog light housing to protect them better.
